"Boys’ Own is by turns very funny, touching, and involving." - Virtual Brighton
On the stage: a soccer goal.

In it: John McKenna, a goalkeeper at the end of his days.

McKenna is a former professional reduced to playing Sunday League football for an amateur side. Our boy reminisces about the FA Cup Final he played in, explains what drove him to goal-keeping, confides his hatred of all footballers, and wonders why his life has fallen apart.

In between, as light wanes. he gives live demonstrations of the art of goal-keeping, and makes countless saves against his invisible opponents.

Jem Wall starred in a Hydrocracker-Brighton Dome production of this classic British one-hander from September 14th-18th 2004 at the Pavilion Theatre, Brighton Dome. The Boy's Own Story was a Brighton Dome and Hydrocracker Production in association with Made in Brighton and with the gratefully acknowledged assistance of Brighton and Hove Albion FC.
